This is my City has been dubbed a “Jackass-style travel show” by the Guardian UK, but I beg to differ. I don’t know if they’re extremely prudish or haven’t actually seen an episode of Jackass, but This is My City has a lot to offer as both a travel journal and on some levels as a social experiment.
Thomas and Tim have set the very ambitious goal of travelling the world together, but what makes this journey unique: Their guides. At every destination a guide is found, (Through friends, online etc.,) to show off their city in all its unedited, uncensored glory. This creates a more personal, real feel to the show and leads to all kinds of shenanigans. Again, not anything like Jackass, but more like something a backpacker could relate to.
The drinking and parties do add some fun, but I think there are some serious points that get brought up. My favourite episode so far, the Reykjavik Pilot, shows the boys meeting up with Vidar, an Icelander (Icelandian?) who shows them around the more drunken side of Reykjavik but also makes a point to show how much the city is modernizing as it becomes more globally recognized.
I enjoyed watching both episodes of the show that are available for free (I have also added them below) and I hope you do too. I love the unpretentious nature of these first offerings and I think it will be a hit with the younger crowd. I could be wrong, but judging from the information on their site it looks like the show is still looking for sponsorship. To me this seems like an easy decision for any young, fresh travel brand as the content has innate ability to go viral (I already posted to Facebook) and will inspire a new generation of fun loving travellers to get off the couch and see the world. I hope someone has the smarts to back this, I for one will by ordering the DVD as soon as it comes out.

Great article.
What a cool show.
I have one MAJOR problem with it though….. It’s very similar to my concept for a travel show.
The pilots are great though and I really hope they get it off the ground.
I am so sick of Getaway and great Outdoors etc. Let’s get some REAL LIFE into the shows. Not planned “reality” for the cameras.
Great find
Thats exactly what I felt! Actually entertaining to watch, plus I feel there is something to take away from every episode. I am still trying to find them a place to stay in Melb. and Christchurch!
